Ethics approval and consent to participate
: The Indian substudy received appropriate ethics approvals from the Institutional Ethics Committee of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF/NCT/09–06/2013). The Danish substudy was approved by the Ethical Committees of the Capital Region of Denmark (H-3-2013- 102) and the Danish Data Protection Agency (2013-54-0498). Both substudies were conducted in accordance with the Helsinki Declaration. Informed consent was obtained from all volunteers prior to inclusion in the Indian as well as Danish substudies. The entire study was approved by appropriate authorities from Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., Translational Health Sciences and Technology Institute, and University of Copenhagen.
