: The CHUSJ Health Ethics Committee approved this study [CES 75-16], with project amended specifically for inclusion of subjects with COVID-19, within the scope of a RESEARCH 4 COVID-19 grant from FCT (special support for rapid implementation projects for innovative response solutions to COVID-19 pandemic)]. All eligible patients provided written informed consent to participate in the study. For ICU patients unable to give consent, this was solicited to their next of kin.
