: All animal experiments were approved (Protocol A2018 07-005-Y3-A10) by the University of Georgia Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) in compliance with the Public Health Service Policy, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals [PMID: 11652350 and PMID: 3306146]. All procedures performed in this study involving human participants were by the ethical standards of the institutional and/or national research committee and the 1964 Helsinki Declaration and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards [(8,9)]. The Institutional Review Board ethical approvals were obtained from the Meharry Medical College (IRB files # 100916AM206 and 22-08-1235) and Vanderbilt University Medical Center (IRB files # 080898 and 100581). Informed consent was obtained and participation in the study was voluntary. Samples for the included studies were obtained from the NIH-funded Digestive Disease Research Center (PI: David A. Schwartz), Vanderbilt Gastrointestinal Biospecimen Repository, and Cooperative Human Tissue Network at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (PI: Mary K. Washington), in collaboration with the Meharry Medical College Human Tissue Acquisition Shared Resource Core (PI: Billy R. Ballard).
