: Human carotid artery specimen was collected from the Munich Vascular Biobank. The biobank was approved by the local Hospital Ethics Committee (2799/10, Ethics Committee of the Faculty for Medicine at the Technical University of Munich, Munich, Germany). The animal study protocol was approved by the Harbin Medical University Ethics Committee (13766830089). The use and care of the animals conformed to the US National Institutes of Health Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. The database derived from mouse transcriptome array studies were performed in accordance with the recommendations in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of the Swedish Board of Agriculture. All the analyses were done in silico using existing data gathered from mouse samples with ethical number N113/05, N490/11 and N48/16.
