: CL has received a research grant from Oudshoorn Medical/Carbofix to conduct research regarding cadaveric studies to optimize the biomechanical properties of a allograft to augment plate osteosynthesis for PHFsLB and RD have reveived research grants from Mathys/Affinis to be able to perform the PhD research regarding the optimal treatment of 3- and 4-part PHFs. Multiple publications have resulted in which outcomes have been reported on conservative versus plate osteosynthesis versus reversed shoulder arthroplasty. For this manuscript; no funding was obtained or used. We believe we have described a reliable and independent overview of literature regarding plate osteosynthesis for the fit elderly.
