: GEDA 2014/2015-EHIS wurde gemäß den Bestimmungen des Bundesdatenschutzgesetzes (BDSG) durchgeführt. Die Studie wurde der Bundesbeauftragten für den Datenschutz und die Informationsfreiheit (BfDI) in Deutschland zur Prüfung vorgelegt. Es wurden keine Bedenken gegen die Durchführung der Studie geäußert. Ein Ethik-Votum war für die reine Befragungsstudie zum damaligen Zeitpunkt nicht notwendig. Die Teilnahme an der Studie war freiwillig. Die Teilnehmenden wurden über die Ziele und Inhalte der Studie sowie über den Datenschutz informiert und willigten informiert in die Teilnahme ein („informed consent“). Abhängig von der gewählten Erhebungsmethode wurde die Einwilligung in schriftlicher oder elektronischer Form eingeholt.
