: Approval was obtained from the Scotland A Research Ethics Committee in 2007 (REC reference number: 07/MRE10/4).
: An application was made to the NHS Scotland Public Benefit and Privacy Panel (PBPP) for Health and Social Care in 2017. Following a Tier 1 review (April 2017), the application was initially referred for a Tier 2 (out-of-meeting) review but was subsequently referred to a Tier 2 panel meeting (November 2017), which required the PI to attend and respond to questions.
