: The COTS used in this study were collected by divers from the Australian Marine Park Tourism Operator (AMPTO) under the GBRMPA permit G18/41587.1.
: As COTS are not regulated under animal welfare guidelines, no formal ethics approval was required for their collection or use in this study. However, all efforts were made to handle and manage the animals responsibly, adhering to best practices for fieldwork and specimen handling in line with environmental and conservation standards.
