: Research permits were issued by the Instituto da Biodiversidade e das Áreas Protegidas (IBAP), Dr. Alfredo Simão da Silva of Guinea-Bissau. Field protocols were carefully performed to lessen disturbance to sea turtles (National Marine Fisheries Service Southeast Fisheries Science Center ) and followed all institutional guidelines. Nesting turtles were handled to the strictly necessary and hatchlings were released immediately after nest excavations or kept inside buckets with moist sand from the nests and released close to the shoreline after sunset.
