: Fieldwork was conducted with ethical international standards for the care and use of wild animals and approved by the Mexican environmental authority Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT) through the Dirección General de Vida Silvestre (DGVS); research permits SGPA/DGVS/01411/12, SGPA/DGVS/00232/13, SGPA/DGVS/01190/14, SGPA/DGVS/02918/15, SGPA/DGVS/02292/16, and SGPA/DGVS/03625/17. Extreme care was taken to minimize stress on the chicks and to protect the eggs from potential predators. The handling time was kept at a minimum, mostly less than 15 min.
