: Each participating centre obtained local ethical approval and a data-sharing agreement. The statistical analysis was conducted within the framework of the French cohort, approved by the Ethical Standards Committee on Human Experimentation at Strasbourg University Hospital (CE-2020-37) and registered at the ClinicalTrials.gov registry (ID: NCT04368390). The study complied with the requirements of the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki and its later amendments. Due to the medical emergency following the initial Covid-19 outbreak and the critical illness of patients with severe respiratory and neurological symptoms, the requirement for individual written informed consent was waived.
