: The animal experiments in this study were approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of the Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, CAAS, China (No. LVRIAEC2016-008), and the suckling mice and guinea pigs were handled in strict accordance with good animal practice according to the Animal Ethics Procedures and Guidelines of the People’s Republic of China. All animals used in the present study were humanely bred during the experiment and euthanized at the end of the experiment to put out of the misery and prevent the spread of FMDV.
