Field researchers were officially licensed for animal manipulation following current EU regulations on animal manipulation (authorization types D and C by regional authorities, Reference CAPT-T-0122-15). Permissions for handling birds were provided by “Consejería de Medio Ambiente de Castilla y León”| (regional government with attributions on the capture of wild birds, protocol number EP/SG/706/2016). The study was ethically approved by the Ethical Committee of “Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas” (CSIC) and by the regional administration competent in matters related to animal protection in research according to Royal Decree 53/2013 (Dirección General de Producción Agropecuaria y Desarrollo Rural, Junta de Castilla y León).
