: The study did not require ethics review and approval according to Slovenian (Invertebrates; Animal Protection Act, Official Journal of the Republic Slovenia, No 38/13, 21/18-ZNOrg, 92/20 and 159/21) and EU legislation (Directive 2010/63/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes) requirements. The experimental procedures used did not include manipulation associated with pain. The males used in experiments were euthanised by freezing at -20 °C and stored in ethanol. All other animals in the stock were provided with food and water until they died naturally.
