: Red deer included in this study were hunted during regular sport hunting and management culling, in accordance with local regulated hunting plans. This study did not encourage hunters to shoot additional deer. We collected fetuses from the carcasses of hunted females. Red deer fetuses from females hunted during sport and management hunting are discarded and eliminated, as they are not used for human consumption. We attended hunted events with permission from private owners or the organizing agencies.
