This study was retrospective and did not affect the treatment of any patient. The specific group studied did not gain from this study, but increased knowledge of trauma care in conflicts is crucial to adapt and improve care. This research fulfilled the exemption criteria set by the Médecins Sans Frontières Ethics Review Board for a posteriori analyses of routinely collected clinical data and thus did not require by the MSF Ethical Review board. It was conducted with permission from Medical Director, Operational Centre Brussels, Médecins Sans Frontières. This research also received approval from the Institutional Review Board of the Afghanistan Ministry of Public Health (ref 444796).
