: At the time of this study Mid-1970 to Mid-1971 the research protocol was approved by the Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB), the IAB Veterinarian and the Radiation Safety Officer. All staff that handled the reindeer for weighing and feeding, including RGW and ER, received training by the veterinarian. The reindeer were inspected by the veterinarian for general health and the food intake and body mass measurements during the study were used to determine that reindeer were in good health. This protocol was the standard procedure at that time.
