: Some study subjects or cohorts have been previously reported. One hundred and seventy-eight of the patients and 102 of the control subjects were used in the former paper depicting SFTT at L1–L2 level predictor of LBP and severe IVDD/Modic at lower lumbar spine. The former study did not define any cutoff values to make it more convenient to use. We continued to collect more subjects to define the new SFI for practical uses in spine clinics.
