According to § 12 “Forschungsvorhaben und Sammlungen von Proben Hamburgisches Krankenhausgesetz (HmbKHG)” the anonymized collection of samples in the course of standard surgical procedures (“surgical waste”) is allowed. Additional ethics approval was therefore not required.
