: Ethical approval was obtained for all experimental protocols from the University of Torino Animal Care and Use Committee, Torino, Italy. All experiments were conducted in accordance with the National Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals adopted by the Italian Ministry of Health (Authorization 695/2020-PR).
: All animals had free access from the shelter to water and food. Every effort was made to minimize animal suffering and the number of animals used. For removal of tissues, animals were deeply euthanized with exposure to a rising concentration of CO<sub>2</sub> and then rapidly sacrificed by cervical dislocation.
