Public significance statements: The ability to learn new concepts is critical throughout the lifespan, helping us to adjust to an ever-changing world and adopt new skills and hobbies that can enrich our lives. In the present research, we found that cognitive abilities were more predictive of concept learning abilities across age than state of mind factors, with current conceptual knowledge and processing speed being key factors that led to better concept learning.
