: All specimens were obtained post-mortem from the Santa Faz Wildlife Recovery Centre (Alicante, Spain) following euthanasia for clinical reasons unrelated to ocular pathology. All procedures complied with institutional and national ethical regulations for the use of animal tissues in research and were approved by the Ethics Committee of the University of Alicante (approval code UA-2020-03-04).
