: Fishes caught by local fishermen from the Demietta branch of the river Nile, near Mansoura city, Dakahlia Province, Egypt, were purchased and transported alive in aerated river water to the Faculty of Science Aquarium, Mansoura University. As there are no relevant national licensing procedures in Egypt, fish handling and Schedule 1 euthanasia procedures followed the Cardiff University Animal Ethics Committee guidelines and were conducted under the remit of UK Home Office license PPL 30/3424.
