: This retrospective study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Canton Zurich (BASEC KEK-ZH-No. 2019-02186). The data from the Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Outcome Study (LSOS) were obtained in a Project with ethics approval KEK-ZH-No. 2010- 0395/0 and from the Appropriateness of Surgery study (APROPOS) with ethics approval KEK-ZH-No. 2015-0145.
: Patient information and consent form or authorisation for further use of data were sent to the patients by post or handed out in the outpatient or inpatient setting together with an accompanying letter. All data originated from routine patient care at Schulthess Clinic and were collected between 2011 and 2019. All patients signed the patient information form or the Schulthess Clinic consent form for authorisation. The consent documents used comply with the requirements of the human research law. Patients who refused this written consent or where no written consent is available were excluded.
