: For the parent study [], ethical clearance was obtained from the Research and Ethics Committee at the University of Limpopo, Medunsa campus, South Africa (Project number: MP 07/2005) and from the Dr. George Mukhari Hospital (DGMH).
: For the parent study [], all of the samples were de-linked from personal identifiers. Informed consent was not obtained directly from individual participants. Instead, ethical clearance was granted by the Institutional Review Board on the basis that the project utilized only stored samples collected as part of routine clinical care for HIV disease.
