: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.
: The study was approved by the data protection officer of the canton of Zurich and classified as not requiring approval by the responsible cantonal Ethics Committee Zurich and was therefore approved (ID: Req-2018-00597) (official statement available upon request.)
: All patients have a general consent, which is signed by them or parents or guardians when they are admitted to the clinic (registration form of the Centre for Dentistry). This includes the consent to the use of data for research and teaching purposes. During the period under review, the Centre for Dentistry did not have a general consent directly focused on scientific projects. The subsequent obtaining of approval for this retrospective data analysis would involve a disproportionate effort and would unfortunately no longer be feasible in some cases. (Some patients are already deceased, moved unknown away, meanwhile cognitively severely restricted, assisted, etc.) This procedure was approved by the data protection commissioner of the canton of Zurich at the request of the cantonal ethics commission Zurich.
