: Two informed consent forms for participation in the trial, consent for the use of harvested subgingival periodontal samples, data protection sheets, and informational material explaining the study in an understandable language were provided before the commencement of the study. The Department of Nephrology and Hypertension at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Nürnberg-Erlangen conducted the kidney transplantations. No organs were obtained from prisoners.
