: The need for written informed consent was waived for this retrospective analysis. Instead, we applied the optout method to obtain consent for this study via the web sites of Toyonaka Municipal Hospital according to the guidelines. On the web pages, it was announced that the records collected for hernia treatment had been anonymized and then used in the study. Patients (and their parent(s) if they were under the age of 20) were given the opportunity to refuse to participate in this study; however, none of them refused participation. The study was conducted according to the ethical principles outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki.
