: This study was performed in accordance with ASAB/ABS Guidelines for the ethical treatment of nonhuman animals in behavioural research. All research presented in the manuscript complied with Argentinean law and followed non-invasive research ethical principles as well as ALPZA (Asociación Latinoamericana de Parques Zoológicos y Acuarios), WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums) and AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) standards on animal welfare. The protocols used in the study were approved by Fundación Temaikèn Animal Care and Use Committee. Captures, handling, and blood sampling (taken as part of the annual veterinary checkup for these birds) were carried out exclusively by a team of professionals from the Fundación Temaikèn Zoo with a permit from Dirección de Flora y Fauna, Ministerio de Agroindustria, Gobierno de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (N° 66/2018). The blood samples were transported under a wildlife transit guide authorized by Dirección Provincial de Recursos Naturales, Gobierno de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (N° 12380).
