: The procedures were approved by the ethical committee (authorization no. 8/2017) of Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical as complying with the Portuguese data protection commission (Deliberation nº 227/2007). As the private laboratory sent the samples already anonymized, only with information on gender, age, and locality, the ethical committee approved the exemption from obtaining informed consent under these circumstances.
