: Ethical approval for the study was granted by the School Research Ethics Committee, Department of Nursing and Midwifery, Stirling University. As the study was designated a service evaluation, it was waived from ethics approval by by the Southeast Scotland Research Ethics Service NHS and granted clinical quality approval by NHS Highlands, Lanarkshire and Glasgow Boards. The research governance procedures of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery and Research Ethics Committee, University of Stirling were followed. In particular, all potential research participants were provided with information about the study including a summary of interview questions. Participants were asked for written consent for the interview to be conducted and recorded and were given the option of discontinuing recording or the interview itself at any point should they wish to. Participants were informed they could withdraw from the study at any time and that any information they had contributed would be expunged from the study. The safety of interview spaces was co-assessed by researcher and GIRFEC lead in each health board.
