However, since the data are secondary data in the public domain, informed consent was obtained on the part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (). No additional consent was required on the part of the authors conducting the present study. Questions asked in the survey are low-risk and differ little from questions one might be asked at an annual medical physical examination. However, some questions may trigger unpleasant memories or feelings in some participants. As a result, participants were allowed to discontinue participation at any time in addition to refusing to respond. Consequently, the risk participants were exposed to through participation can be considered negligible.
