: Prior informed consent was obtained from all women we worked with, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which guarantees that personal data is handled lawfully, transparently and fairly. Because of the lengthy immersion in the field, these ethical principles were regularly reiterated, with particular emphasis on the ongoing possibility for participants to exclude certain remarks or actions being recorded in the field notes. The first author was careful to record only element that was directly or indirectly relevant to the research topic. All identifying personal data has been anonymized. This approach is part of a broader ethical and reflexive stance, aimed to be attentive to power issues in the investigative relationship.
