All procedures performed in the study involving human participants were in accordance with the ethical standards of the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and approval for the project was obtained from the Ethics Committee at the same institute for the corresponding project Planet4B-35243 dated 17th of July, 2023, which was prior to any data collection. Written consent was obtained from all study participants.

Open data: The data for this study included audio files of interviews and the subsequent interview transcripts. Since this data cannot be completely anonymised without losing critical content necessary for analysing the data, they are not provided publicly. This is in accordance with the ethical principles of anonymity for data.

Author attestation: All authors agree with the contents of the manuscript and its submission to the Journal of Peasant Studies.
