: This study was approved by the Indiana University School of Medicine’s Institutional Review Board, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, and the Moi University/Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s Institutional Research and Ethics Committee in Eldoret, Kenya. Study participants were assigned a pseudonym to use during the WhatsApp<sup>®</sup> discussions to protect their privacy. The study counselor who facilitated the groups was trained in mental health counseling by the AMPATH program and had specific training in referral mechanisms available for participants in this setting. If the counselor suspected any participant was suffering from a serious mental or behavioral disorder or episode, the counselor referred the patient for additional counseling at AMPATH that is provided for free to all patients.
