: No approval of research ethics committees was required to accomplish the goals of this study because the work was conducted as part of governmental responsibility by Natural Resources Institute Finland to establish captive broodstocks using gametes collected annually from wild-caught salmon spawners and the experiment involved unregulated embryo stages of fish. Permission for fish capturing was provided by the regional fisheries authority (North Savo Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment; licence number POSELY/1738/5716–2017).
