: We obtained permission from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Ethics Committee of the Freshwater Fisheries Research Center, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (Wuxi, China), to conduct all experiments involving <i>M. nipponense</i>. All <i>M. nipponense</i> used in the present study were collected from the Dapu <i>M. nipponense</i> breeding base located in Wuxi, China (120°13′44″E, 31°28′22″N). They were maintained in aerated freshwater with dissolved oxygen content ≥ 6 mg/L for 3 days prior to tissue collection.
