: I have worked for several years in a virology laboratory with BL3 practices handling viruses that had no meaningfully effective treatment at the time, but not specifically with Ebola. I have not practiced medicine in war-torn areas. I have not practiced clinical medicine in the USA since I moved to Stanford in 2010, but I am still actively board certified/licensed in Greece and I was consulted as an infectious disease expert on a large number of COVID-19 patients in Greece, whenever I was physically there and also remotely. I have not accepted any renumeration for any clinical work that I have provided since I finished my infectious diseases clinical fellowship training in 1996. I have witnessed many colleagues who were mentally devastated during the COVID-19 pandemic, terrorized by misinformation that stressed their supposedly high risks of death and other adverse outcomes from SARS-CoV-2. This article is dedicated to all physicians, other healthcare workers and researchers who expose themselves to high risks to serve humanity and to those who burned out, in part because they were misinformed about the risks they face.
