: The fish were handled in accordance with the European Union regulations concerning the protection of animals used for scientific purposes (Dir 2010/63/UE) and with the recommendations provided by the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of the Spanish Royal Decree 53/2013 regarding the protection of animals used for scientific purposes (BOE 2013). The Experimental Animal Ethics Committee from the Universitat Politecnica de Valencia approved the applied protocols, and final permission (2023-VSC-PEA-0039) was granted by the local government (Generalitat Valenciana).
