: This research was done in accordance with the ethical norms specified and approved by the respective ethics committee of the Department of Zoology, University of Calcutta. Samples of vertebrate species, which are already protected, have not been collected. Moreover, according to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) status, most of the fishes that were used or sampled in this study are either “not evaluated” or are in the “least threatened” category. No surveys or sampling procedures were conducted within the protected areas or their water bodies. The authors affirm that all ethical obligations pertaining to this research have been met.
