Declarations
:
: This study followed the general rules of the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity (2018). We obtained written permission from the local Maroon authorities (paramount chiefs) to collect samples and interview people from Maroon villages. Before each interview, we obtained oral consent from each farmer to use the shared information for research purposes. Collected rice specimens have been deposited in the ADRON germplasm bank (living seeds) with the associated “rice passport” data: information on the characters and properties of each Maroon landrace, collection locality, and personal data of the farmer, to protect intellectual property rights and preclude patents by commercial breeding companies or germplasm institutes.
