: This study received ethical approval through the Nagoya protocol, granted by the Ministry of the Environment and Biodiversity of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. Co-researchers were informed both verbally and in writing of the study procedure schedule, and planned engagement before the study began. All semi-structured interviews with locals were conducted after a consent form was signed. Results were discussed with key-informants.
