: C.A.E is the founder of Pangolin Protection Network, a Nigerian non-profit working to reduce wildlife (particularly pangolin) hunting.
: Research ethics were assessed and approved by the University of Cambridge’s Psychology Research Ethics Committee (application numbers: PRE.2020.095 and PRE.2021.071). After community consultations where we introduced the project and sought volunteers, we explained the study to hunters who were initially interested, detailing the nature of data collection and the risks involved through a standardised participant information sheet. The hunters who agreed to take part were given a consent form to sign. We stressed voluntary participation, data anonymisation, and participants’ rights to withdraw at any time during the study. Each respondent provided written free and informed consent before data collection commenced (we only recruited hunters above 18 years).
