: This study received ethical approval under the Nagoya Protocol, granted by the Ministry of the Environment and Biodiversity of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau. Co-researchers were informed verbally and in writing of the study procedures, schedule, and planned engagement before the study began. All semi-structured interviews with residents were conducted after participants signed a consent form. Results were presented and discussed with farmers.
