: This study was conducted per the ARRIVE guidelines (). All procedures followed relevant institutional and national regulations. The study protocol was approved on 06.12.2016 by the Atatürk University Animal Experiments Local Ethics Committee (AÜHADYEK; decision no. 166). The research was conducted at the Atatürk University Experimental Animal Research Center (ATADEM) between 30.04.2018 and 30.07.2018 (total 14 weeks). For euthanasia, rats were fasted for 12 h and decapitated under light sevoflurane-based anesthesia, following the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) guidelines for the anesthesia and euthanasia of animals. All animals were handled according to the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) guidelines.
