: All excavation and study of human remains discussed in this article were undertaken under the aegis of projects conducted with licenses and permits from the relevant antiquities departments in Cyprus, Egypt, and Sudan, and with permission of Fort William Henry Corporation in the USA. Human remains from Cyprus are housed in a storage/lab facility in Polis maintained by Princeton University. Those from Abydos, Egypt, are housed in a magazine for human and faunal remains at the American dig house complex (Pennsylvania-Yale-NYU house). Remains from my own fieldwork and prior projects in Sudan were gifted to the institutions that originally excavated them in conjunction with international rescue projects arising from the Aswan High Dam construction in Egypt and the Merowe Dam in Sudan and are all currently housed at Arizona State University.
