: This study was approved by the Departmental Research Ethics Committee (DREC), Department of Psychology in the School of Social Sciences, University of Ghana, Accra. We followed the ethical procedures of the Ghana Education Service for conducting research involving pupils in pre-tertiary educational institutions in Ghana. The Ayensuano District Educational Directorate in Eastern Ghana, and heads of all the participating schools permitted this study.
: Each participant signed a written consent form prior to responding to the survey; parents/guardians of underage participants provided consent and we obtained the assent of participants aged 10–17 years, prior to taking part in the study.
