: We adhered to the ASAB/ABS guidelines for the ethical treatment of animals in conducting this study. None of the test subjects were used in other experiments prior to our study, and all spiders and water striders were housed and fed uniformly during the testing period. After completion of the study, wolf spiders were returned to a riparian ecosystem where each species co-exists and water striders were returned to the pond from which they were collected. Spiders and water striders require no oversight or approval of our institutional animal care and use committee (IACUC). Water striders (Aquarius conformis), fishing spiders (Dolomedes triton) and wolf spiders (Pardosa milvina in the littoral zone) were collected using a resident fishing license issued to Matthew Persons for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (License 309–671-295) and a Type I scientific collector’s permit for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (License 2024–01-0374).
