: The first author (MATC) acknowledges having personal conflicts in synonymizing this species, since such a taxonomic decision would imply that Honduras no longer has any endemic rodent species. Moreover, several colleagues and fellow researchers suggested that it might be better not to publish this information, as it could be perceived as diminishing the country’s biodiversity. Nevertheless, after careful consideration, the author recognizes that, from both an ethical and scientific perspective, the priority must be to present the evidence objectively and contribute to a more accurate understanding of biodiversity, even when the results may be personally or nationally discouraging.
