: This article does not contain any studies with animals performed by any of the authors. Our data are derived from the World Values Survey (WVS ). The WVS is an international survey that includes a large number of American, African, Asian and European countries and is repeated every 9 years. In this study, we used the data from the wave conducted between 2010 and 2013 from the following countries: Belarus, Estonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovenia and Ukraine. There were approximately 1500 respondents interviewed in every country with a total of 10,606 respondents. Since we were interested in the elderly, in our analysis we retained responses only from the participants who were 65 years old and older. Thus, we obtained a sample of 2012 participants. Furthermore, since we were only interested in the impact of different religious practices on subjective satisfaction with life we excluded from our sample respondents who declared that they do not belong to any religion. Also, since several religious groups were very poorly represented (less than 20 participants) we excluded them as well from our analysis. In conclusion, we were left with a final sample of 1243 respondents. Since we did a second data analysis we believe that all procedures performed in studies involving human participants were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutional and/or national research committee and with the 1964 Declaration of Helsinki and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.
: We believe that informed consent was obtained from all individual participants included in the World Values Survey (WVS ).
